Eric launched his own legal and lobbying firm in December of 2014. Aside from the Illinois Insurance Guaranty Fund, he represents the American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA), Progressive Insurance, Employers Holdings Inc., Roblox, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, AT&T Illinois, Associated Beer Distributors of Illinois, Constellation Energy, Washington University, and Fresenius Medical Care North America. Eric most recently served as Chief Legal Counsel to Illinois Senate President John J. Cullerton and Senate Parliamentarian from 2009-2014. When he joined the Senate in January 2009, one of his first tasks was to draft the rules for and organize the Senate’s historic impeachment trial of then-Governor Rod Blagojevich. During the trial, he served as Parliamentarian while the Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court presided over the case. Eric established the Senate President’s legal review staff in 2009 ultimately employing 10 attorneys. He served as the Senate President’s point person on a myriad of significant legislative matters, including public pension reform, redistricting, telecommunications, energy and public utilities, the Illinois Lottery, labor law, ethics and procurement, and economic development. After graduating from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1999, Eric started his professional career in January 2000 as Assistant Counsel to Illinois House Speaker where he worked for four years on major legislation involving redistricting, telecommunications, gaming, revenue, public utilities, procurement and environmental regulation. His career continued as a staff attorney with the Illinois Commerce Commission followed by working as an associate with Freeborn & Peters, LLP (now Smith Gambrell Russell) from 2005-2008. In that role, Eric provided legal and lobbying services to Freeborn’s clients, including, among others, eBay and StubHub. Eric is the proud father of three high school age children and lives in Springfield, Illinois. |
