Robert Wake serves as General Counsel for the Maine Bureau of Insurance, a position he has held since 2010. In this role, he provides legal counsel on a wide range of regulatory and policy matters affecting the state's insurance industry. Prior to his current role, Mr. Wake served as a staff attorney at the Bureau from 1993 to 2010 and began his tenure there as an Assistant Attorney General in 1989.​ Mr. Wake is actively involved with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), where he contributes to initiatives such as the Receivership and Insolvency (E) Task Force and represents the NAIC on the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) Resolution Working Group.

He earned his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School in 1988, where he served as the book review editor of the Harvard Law Review and editor-in-chief of the Harvard Law Revue parody edition. Following law school, he clerked for Chief Justice Vincent McKusick of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court
